Last summer, after 23 years, Simone Resta finally had the chance to focus on his garden. However, his top priority was moving to the UK to join Mercedes as the strategic development director, announced just two months after returning to Maranello from a secondment at Haas. Resta started working at Mercedes in October and assumed the role of deputy technical director, reporting directly to James Allison. Having previously worked together at Ferrari, Resta and Allison have a strong professional relationship. Resta’s main responsibilities include focusing on shorter-term and long-term strategic developments for Mercedes’ F1 team. Despite being initially set to start in 2025, Resta began his role earlier due to the arrangement made over the gardening leave period of Loic Serra.
